IT’S JANUARY 6TH and in Ireland  that can only mean one thing. It’s Nollaig na mBan, aka ”Little Women’s Christmas”.
.
It’s an old custom that’s still celebrated by women all over Ireland. It goes back to the days when large families were the norm. Men never lifted a finger in the house to help, and were never expected to.
.
But each year, on January 6th, after all the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over, the women get a well earned day off (no mother-guilt) and the men step-in and take care of the housework. It’s Ireland’s traditional “girls night out”.
.
Sisters, aunts, daughters and girlfriends get together at local restaurants or pubs and enjoy some good old-fashion girl time.
.
I love this special little Irish tradition and plan to spend the day with some wise and wonderful women in my life. So gather your girl gang and celebrate. This should be a legal holiday in the USA.
Happy Nollaig na mBan (Little Women's Day).
